Name: Leckzyn “Leckz” Gere
Age: 21
Occupation: Student—sound design, he also works part time making sandwiches.
Affiliation: none. He knows about the Bertrand family, though
Gender: Male
Physical appearance: Leckzyn is one whose ego is often fed with compliments. Standing at about 5'10”, he's well sculpted with a handsome face. His hair is a light honey brown, his eyes are lime green, and his signature crooked smile seems to appeal to most people. His hair falls just past his nape with long bangs that sweep dramatically to the side, a combination of a natural wave and thirty minutes in front of the mirror making it stay. The back of his hair is held in place by a grey and black checkered beanie.
Tattoos include: a blue and black nautical star on his right shoulder, a toxic symbol just below his neck, music notes across his right side, a tribal tattoo on his left side, lyrics down his left forearm, his band name spanned across his wrists, a bar code on his Achilles tendon, and a USB symbol on his lower stomach. Irrelevant to tattoos, he also has a mole under his left eye.
He dresses in a pair of dark jeans, split at the left knee and corseted back together, as well as a diagonal split below the knee of the same type, flat, thickly padded shoes, t-shirt, and a sweatshirt with the same corseted openings at the sleeves.
Personality: Leckzyn, on the surface, appears to be that calm, cool, collected charmer whose capability to swoon women with his cold nature is something to be admired. Those who know him well, who are few and far between, know that this is not the case. Leckzyn is, in all actuality, obsessed with impressing his friends, and bears the burden of his best friend's death on his shoulders, something that has, in part, kept him distant from others while still gaining their admiration.
He's one to find a way to work the system. Leckyzn is one to study a professor the first few classes rather than pay attention to lectures, learning what assignments are vital and which aren't, learning who grades based on attendance and who doesn't, and where he actually wants to be and where he doesn't.
Leckzyn is best described as carefree. He's one of those people who, for the most part, lives in the present. He does what he wants when he wants to, and while he does many things to impress his friends, he ultimately does them because he enjoys it.
When he's not working part time for a bit of cash, he's commonly found around town at local bars with his band, Minor Psychosis, or at the skate park turning tricks.
Strengths: Leckzyn is a charmer by nature. His looks are enough to sway women, but he also has a general air of mystery and appeal to him that people seem to like. It's an easy way for him to get what he wants from people with little effort. All he has to do is throw on the nice boy routine.
He's also physically strong. He has a masculine build, and his constant activity allows him to be very agile.
Weaknesses: Ultimately, Leckzyn can't get his priorities straight. It's the reason his best friend died, and its leading him down a path that he shouldn't follow. He's one of those people who puts things off until the last minute, thinking only about what's in the now. He focuses on the present and occasionally on the past, with no regard to consequences.
Leckzyn is also impulsive, which goes along with the above. Act now, think later is his policy. And while he's physically powerful, he has no strategy in such things. He has a sort of fire-at-will perspective on fighting.
Leckz can be short tempered too. It really depends on the day, but when he's in a mood, he's pretty much a landmine, and that gets him in a lot of trouble.
Leckzyn isn't stupid, but he's not much of a thinker. He's simply always looking for the easy way out, and when that requires him to actually take the time to weight the options, he'll generally drop the easy way and do whatever comes to mind first. which is usually the wrong choice.
Weapons: Not unless you want to call his skateboard a club.
Background: Denna and Arie had always been close. Since they were in college, the two had been practically inseparable, so it was no surprise when the two became pregnant around the same time. The two boys were born withi the same week in mi-august, and were given the names Leckzyn and Verric. The boy's grew up together, forming an inseparable bond from an early age.
Denna's husband and Leckzyn's father was a cruel man. An alcoholic and verbally abusive, Leckz had heard his fair share of screams and tears from his mother at an early age. It was because of this that he preferred spending time at their neighbor's, with Verric. Neither of their families had much, but Leckzyn could always rely on feeling safe and secure under Arie's roof.
It was only by coincidence that both boy's had problems. But while Denna's boy, Leckzyn, was discovered to be dyslexic, Arie's Verric was diagnosed as having type 1 Diabetes. It was at seven years old when he'd had his first taste of the disease, and was rushed to the hospital after complaints of fatigue had him on the ground shaking.
It was a devastating time for both families. But Leckzyn, who didn't fully grasp what had happened, vowed to protect his best friend.
He stayed by Verric's side after that, and as he grew older, took the initiative of making sure he was eating properly while they were at school. Every day was a challenge. Funding was limited, and most of Verric's family's money went into his medications and insulin injections, but they did what they had to in order to keep the boy alive. And whilst that first seizure was far from his last, Verric lived, for the most part, a normal life.
The boy's picked up a skateboard for the first time at nine years old. They spent every day practicing, despite numerous injuries and a lack of skill, and eventually grew to have some form of talent by the time they entered middle school, when they developed an interest in music after hearing the music teacher on his guitar. It was then that the boys decided to spend an hour after school every day borrowing his instruments and working with him to learn more.
The combination of musical talent and extreme sports made them quite popular amongst middle school girls, and by the time eighth grade came along, Verric was amongst the most beloved students there, with Leckz close behind. School became a haven for Leckzyn. It was a place where he was loved and admired. The opposite of his home life, where fights between his father and him grew more frequent as he defended his mother or himself, and had on more than one occasion ended in violence.
Then came ninth grade. It was the year Leckzyn and Verric decided to make a band, by request of another close friend who wanted to play drums with them. They called themselves a great many things before they settled on Minor Psychosis the following year. The three man group with Leckzyn on bass and Verric on guitar and mic, took every opportunity thrown at them to make themselves known.
The two had made plans for the future. Plans with the band. They wanted to put their name out there, and they would have dine it too. But it was all short-lived. On a class trip junior year, Leckzyn and a few friends snuck out while Verric, who claimed to be too tired to do so, remained in his room. However, after returning just hours before they were to meet with the class again, Leckzyn found Verric unconscious on the ground, his bag opened and spewed across the ground. Leckz searched his possessions frantically, only to find that his there were no insulin injections in his bag, assumed to be what he'd wanted so badly that night.
He immediately informed one of the teachers and told them he must have been in too deep a sleep to have heard him, but it was too late. He entered the hospital in a coma, and despite efforts to raise the money for him to be treated, they came up short. A month later, Verric died, and the guilt Leckzyn held forced home to come clean about what happened that night. After all was said and done, he left home and moved in with an older friend for his senior year at school, and was lucky enough to land a scholarship to Medyl University for his music talents.
Three years later, and the guilt he felt from that foolish decision of his remains suppressed in his subconscious, occasionally making its way to the surface and keeping him awake at night. He knew it was his fault Verric had died. He knew if he'd been there that night, they could have gotten him to the hospital in time and he would have been fine. But ultimately, there was nothing he could do but move on.
It is because of what happened to Verric that Leckzyn feels obligated to be liked. He'd been foolish and lost someone he truly cared about, and because of that he craved to have people care about him.
Extra information: As mentioned above, Leckz is dyslexic. Something he's ashamed of and does his best to keep his own little secret. As a result, he'll often avoid having to read things aloud and the like.
Leckzyn has not seen or heard from his family since he left and, while they never officially kicked him out that night, they didn't chase after him either.
The band name that Verric had come up with was carried with him when he went to Medyl. He continues to use it, only he's now the frontman.
